I found the solution how to play the multiplayer for now: 1. Load a single player game. 2. Press ESC, it will start connecting to servers. 3. After it connected, exit to main menu. 4. Now you have to have a friend in the list which is in-game. It might have something to do with low player counts in your region, not many people seem to play it anymore, especially as arcade was a bit of a flop tbh.
