Among 26 vs 27.5 vs 29 wheel size variations in the market, the differences hinge on the idea of the bike structure dimensions that suits a cyclist’s height. The mountain bike wheel size for height ranging from 5’2” – 5’10” is a 27.5 bike.
The Polygon Siskiu T8 is easily the best bike we've tested in this price bracket. This affordable mid-travel trail bike rolls on 29-inch wheels and has 135mm of rear-wheel travel paired with a 140mm fork. The Siskiu's geometry ticks all modern boxes, giving this bike a nicely well-rounded and versatile performance.
How much wider? 2.7-3.0in about covers it. They usually sit on wider rims too, 40-50mm internal width to allow the wider tyre to spread out properly and form the optimal shape. Those 27.5in Plus tyres near enough match up in external diameter to 29in tyres, which means some bike companies let you switch between the two wheel sizes.
It would be nice to compare Mullet bikes vs full 27,5 wheels bikes [Reply] 31 1. 29 = 0.26, roughly 3x more variance on 29 ) and perhaps more chance/precision required to get a fast time. E.g
Straight to the point, I'd like more opinions and experiences on the Trance 29'er compared to the Anthem SX. The Trance 29 is almost 3" (70mm give or take) LONGER wheelbase, 2 degrees slacker at the head tube and 48mm taller stack compared to the nimble Anthem SX 27.5 (2015). The travel is about equal but we're talking 29'er vs 27.5 wheels.
TimoA. 246 posts · Joined 2014. #9 · Jul 19, 2018. Fuel EX 27.5+ has 2.8" tyres, a 140mm 29er fork and the Mino Link flip chip at the high position. With a 27.5 fork you probably would need to go up to 160mm to get a similar axle to crown length. P.
I rode the Woodsmoke first, a highly-versatile carbon rig designed to run 27.5+, 29″, or 29+ wheels and tires. In addition to a variety of different wheel sizes, it can also easily run from zero to 140mm of travel on the 27.5+ and 29-inch wheels, and up to 120mm on 29+. The bike comes equipped with Salsa’s new Alternator 2 dropouts.
Some of the 29ers had more of the "in the bike" feeling than others but something not delivered by the one 27.5" or any of the 26" bikes I have ridden. And except for Specialized, the 29ers all offer limited granny gearing. Of most interest to me was that the 27.5" bike I rode, a Yeti 575, the wheels seemed remarkable similar to 26" wheels.
